Louis Armstrong Tribute
"Credit Where it's Due"

With seventy years of living, and a majority of it on stage
and in the public eye, it's little wonder there is so much
information published about Louis and his music. Most of
it based on fact, however, there also exist a lot of legend
about this great man. Often it is impossible to separate the
two, and sometimes one does not really desire to know the
difference. In compiling the information on these pages I
have used many resources, and will attempt here to give
credit to those I have used the most. If I have neglected
to list sources of material it is not intentional. Please bring
it to my attention and it will be corrected. Also if I have
used copyright material you own and do not wish me to
use, please let me know, and it will be removed.

Internet Sources
My personal favorite and most used web site contains the
best Louis discography I have found on the internet, and
much biographical information. This site is well worth a visit.
LOUIS ARMSTRONG OH,YOU DOG
Queens College in New York owns and maintains the home
of Louis and Lucille Armstrong along with many photos,
tapes, manuscripts, instruments, and personal items, which
they make available to the public. Their site is a wonderful
resource, plus they have many educational programs.
LOUIS ARMSTRONG ONLINE
The Jazz Museum in the Old US Government Mint Building
in New Orleans maintains a fine collection of Louis posters,
photos, instruments, recordings, and other artifacts. A visit
to the museum is an unforgettable experience. Their web
site can be found here.
THE JAZZ COLLECTION
A good discography, including recording session dates
and personnel, on the internet, may be found at this site.
The site also has a good biography of Louis and other
early Jazz artist. You can also listen to many of the early
classic recordings in 'real audio' files.
RED HOT JAZZ
A great source of links to sites containing photos, books,
films, biographies, discography's, postage stamps, quotes
and more, of Louis Armstrong, is available here.
LOUISIANA MUSIC ARTIST DIRECTORY
The most complete discography, some good history, and more
may be found by going here, and typing Louis Armstrong into
the artist search. Other artist and bands from Jazz and other
genre's of music may be found here also, with a good rating system.
ALL-MUSIC GUIDE

Book Sources
Probably the most useful book source I have found is the
biography 'Satchmo' by Gary Gibbins published in 1968 by
Anchor Books. This volume has much history in an easy to
read format along with many wonderful photos. A must for
any library of Louis Armstrong material.
Louis' autobiography " 'Satchmo' My Life in New Orleans"
published in 1954 by Prentice Hall, reprint 1986 Da Capo
Press, is an essential source for research into early Armstrong.
"Jazz" by John Fordham, published in 1993 by Dorling
Kindersley Books, covers the history of Jazz, and most
artist. Lots of Louis information and great photos.
