Random comments and thoughts on NYE. A few xtra thousand people more than I'm used to for a LoS show, but hey, it was NYE...Nice to meet some of you at Magnolia's b4 the show. Howdies to Jason Schwartz, Rebaman David, Mike A, Kim. We had 10/24/97 Set I Louisville cranking at Magnolia's for our drinking and listening pleasure. Although the setlists were pretty predictable the playing was fantastic. Darol Anger added soo much to the sound, phenomenal solos. First set standout (besides the Iko) easily was Levee. This was the most 'out there' Levee I have ever heard. Now I was in full NYE mode so exact details are sketchy, but Paul McCandless' solo was other worldly and sent the band into a very psychedelic jam that didn't really resemble Levee at all. Was this before the first verse was even sung? (Beverley Hillbillies New Year-> San Francisco (wear Flowers in your Hair)-> >>>Here is where I am going to complain a little. What was this all about? I kind of expected the band to be *playing* at midnight. Instead they blast a really lame one hit wonder Scott McKenzie song. If they are going to play prerecorded music at midnight at least it could be a real SF band. From what I understand people (esp. SF locals) *hated* that song back in '67. The hillbillies on the truck/float tossing flowers looked less than excited that it was midnight NYE. They were like, 'here's a flower kid, scram'. The people on that float should have been going ape s*%t ! I say let some listers go crazy on the float next NYE. Enough complaining. Setlist correction appreciated... Apparantly Jim Page will be with the boys for at least the Eugene shows, anyone know whether he's scheduled to be around in Portland and Seattle?? The Wild Duck shows are on Monday and Tuesday nights, so that should keep at least a few of the out-of-towners away. The tix are $11 and can be bought through Fastixx (503-224-TIXX), I'm not sure if they have an 800 number or not. I'm gonna make the suggestion tha if you're planning on catching these shows to get your tix ASAP, because The Wild Duck only sells about 450 tix for each show. The same suggestion for The Crystal Ballroom. While it's at least two or three times the size of the Wild Duck, they sold it out a while in advance last time. And finally, who knows about the Ballard firehouse?? what's this place all about?? I was trying to convince myself that I was just going to go to Portland and Eugene, but who am I kiddin'?? Why would I head south out of Portland when the boys are headed north to do two shows?? I think a meeting is in order before the Crystal ballroom, . . . /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ / "Stray dogs, and hungry people, / I think the solution is obvious" / -Ellen / /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Jason Bryan Schwartz Jschwart@gladstone.uoregon.edu http://www.tapetrading.com/lists/j/s/jschwart@gladstone.uoregon.edu.html http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~jschwart ------ =_NextPart_000_01BD1AEF.B75467F0 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Jason Bryan Schwartz To: Zachary Ethan Roberts Cc: "D. There could be many reasons... the Fillmore could be booked around that time, and there may be no good dates open... they may be planning another 2-3 show stint in SF later, so they are skipping SF for now... (this is wishful thinking)... It could even have something to do with BGP being sold. ***THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR*** but I heard that BGP doesn't own the Fillmore, and they lease the land/building. There has been some speculation that the new owners may not renew the lease, and they might be closing the Fillmore. Again, THIS IS A RUMOR. It was not told by anyone who works with BGP... Michael Wooten (we miss you!!!) has been gone for half a year and we still don't have a groovy photo with the Apt. I really love that publicity shot and hope they'll keep it archived somewhere handy but I would really dig a photo with Senor Sipe. God I'm being picky! For being so picky, I'll spin D>A (for b/p) of my SCI 12-26-97 Seattle show (DSBD) for the first two people to contact me. It'll fit onto 2x90min cassettes and your copy will be run from my DAT masters onto a Nakamichi 1.5 cassette deck. Sorry for the cross-band offer but, hey, we're all friends here! If you don't get a response from me then the offer has already been filled. See a bunch of you freaks in Portland and Seattle in a few weeks!
