I've only been seeing LoS a couple years now (actually I guess only a year and a half, so what do I know??) . . . but I've always come to expect repeats at their shows. Euphoria, Funky Mtn., Ask The Fish, Better, Mama Boulet, are tunes that I just assume I'm going to see at almost every show. Even if the boys have ten tunes that they play every night (which is an exxageration), that's still a lot of room to mix things up. . . This past weekend I caught 2 night stands in both Seattle and Eugene, and noticed that even at the same venue the boys will bust out some of the songs both nights. . . which doesn't really bother me, because besides those, they mix it up quite a bit. . . I can't speak for the bay area shows, but after five shows last weekend, even the songs I was hearing for the fourth time in six days made me boogie. And generally, it was worth the wait because what often followed those standards were something a little more exotic and rare, . . . I'm still looking for a setlist for the Catalyst (can't wait til' tomorrow Bill), but I've gotta say that I'm really surprised that so many people posted complaints before I even heard about the Darkside of the Moon to open the second set, . . . you don't hear that every show, . . . Any chance the band was picking up the bad vibes from the venue???? It's been known to happen, . . . And, for rambling so long, I'll go ahead and offer up 1/23/98 Seattle at the Ballrad firehouse to the first three people to respond. It'll require 1x100minute and 2x90minute, with Funky Mtn. Fogdown and the encore being the only thing on the third tape, which leaves a lot of room for filler Here' the setlist Set I Fairies Rocky Road Blues Mama Boulet Sittin' on Top of the World Viper Jack Knife Cactus Flower Jokester Midnight Blues 420 Polka Carnival Time ?? I asked Vince Herman about this (the next day, in Petaluma) and he said "no" unequivocally. He also said it's a damn good thing that he didn't see the guy get dragged off in a headlock from down front or he might have left the stage and got involved. "I've done it before," he said, and I believe it. I spent some time with Vince before the Petaluma gig and he very much cares about the fans and the scene inside the show. He did say that he learned about what happened (the guy had his glass pipe smashed - by the "security guards" - *inside the lobby*, right in front of the Salmon merch table! "Security" then just walked away, leaving the broken glass on the floor there!) at set break. Vince talked to security about mellowing out in the second set, which they seem to have done...... somewhat..... In my opinion: The "security" at Santa Cruz was *drunk* on the job and very, er, *cranky*. Their power-mad actions were enough to leave me never wanting to go to The Catalyst again....... That said, suffice it to say this about my take on shows: I was NOT disappointed one lil' bit with the music either night, didn't mind repeats at all (they gotta push the latest CD somewhat, no?). I thought Petaluma was both musically more adventurous and the venue far superior than Santa Cruz. The one aspect of Santa Cruz I liked better than Petaluma was Jim Page's improvised rap, the Santa Cruz Blues..... They just left the area, but if they stayed a month I'd go every night I could. :) :) :) looking out for justice (it's got a night-stick in its hand), Tim tlynch@socrates.berkeley.edu "I been out all weekend howling at the moon....." ------ =_NextPart_000_01BD3653.1DDA1960 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: "Lerdawg@aol.com" To: "leftover@lists.colorado.edu" , "Cheekweezl@aol.com" Subject: Dream List!
