At the BUT I'll probably be right in front of the sbd taping w/ an AT822... unless someone wants to bring their Scheops, Neumann's, B&K's ect. :) The Belly Up is cool w/ taping as long as someone in the band talks to the house sound man before the show. BTW, the sound man at the BUT is not real friendly... it doesn't seem to matter how polite you are when you aproach him, he wants cash if he has to deal w/ giving a line out... and if someone in the band hasn't talked to him before hand he'll probably start ranting and raving about taking yer tapes, kicking you out, bla, bla, bla. As for the HOB, I hear they're not quite as anal about taping these days... anyone have any details? I almost got thrown out of the show because upon entering I only received one stamp on my wrist. I went out to grab a beer before LoS went on (and to get some booze to smuggle in) and when I returned I walked by the security jerks showing them my stamp as I went through. I was back in my seat waiting for LoS to go on with my friends when one of the nazi's rushed over to me demanding to see my ticket. When I explained that they had already taken my ticket and showed him my arm stamp, he called me a "fucking liar" and informed me that you needed to arm stamps to get into the show. He then got me to go up to the entrance where a quite heated discussion arose between the two of us. The wannabe cop that is known for his headlock (hate to say it, but I kinda wish he'd of tried that on me) stood at the entrance taking tickets and repeatedly yelled at the other guy to just throw me the hell out of there. Eventually, showing them my stamp, the bass envelope I had from my tickets, and my id showing that I'd driven over 2 1/2 hours to the show they relented and let me back in. Don't think I would have faired as well had they known I had a bottle of rum in my pants. Luckily, once the music started the creeps were easily forgotten and I had a blast. Brain Damage (Dark Side of the Moon) and Santa Cruz Blues w/ Jim Page were the highlights for me. Do you think the security guards might have taken a moment to hear Jim's words???? The Catalyst would be a much better place if they had. What a difference a night makes. The Mystic was a very pleasurable place to see LoS. No hassles or bad vibes whatsoever. The boys started the show as hot as I've seen them start in a long time. However, I think some of the energy got lost in the second set. Maybe it was just me, these 32 year old legs don't have the same enduance they used too. Jim Page, though always great to see with the boys, didn't have the same type of message that he usually gives to the crowd, you know the one that creates that very euphoric state. He seemed to be a little more playful and not quite as deep as usual. Nothing wrong with that though. The piece that I felt definitely didn't fit in was the guest drummer. Though I'm sure a talented musician, he just didn't seem to understand how to fit in with the boys. He never quite took the lead when given it. Still it was another great show. Some sad news I got after the show talking to Vince, was that LoS will only be at the Labor Day High Sierra Fest and not at the 4th of July Fest. Hopefully, this changes and LoS will be at both. After the bummer of missing my Dark Side request and the bad vibes from security (+ the 2 pitchers of New Castle and the Irish Whiskey at set break) I stopped taking notes. Bend and T'nas Pas had Drew on fiddle (which he doesn't play enough in my opinion). Boogie had a hot slide solo. I have only seen 2 other people do slide mando- Kang & Bush, any others? There was a drum solo in Mama Boulet that was just scorching, def. The 1st set highlight. I know there was a Funky Mt. Fogdown in the 2nd. I really like the intro @ the Catalyst.
