There's been > a few on this tour (L.A., etc.).... Yep! Taping was also banned @ the HOB in L.A. on 2/7/98. I asked Steve for a patch before the show and he said that HOB told him absolutely no board patches for anyone! They (HOB) also had a guy announce "No audio or video recording of any kind" before every act... Jim Page opened for Mother Hips who opened for LoS. I showed them though! :) After being shut down for the board patch I ran out to the car and grabbed the old AT822 and mic stand and slipped past security w/ the stuff in my trench coat... worked my way up to about 20 feet from the stage in the center and put "up periscope" right there. I didn't go too much over head high though... didn't want to get shut down by the anti-taping HOB security. People were very cool around me and helped fend off a drunk chick at one point and they actually would point out that I was taping when anyone started talking near by! Much different than we've been reading re:drunk frat boys and people talking through the whole show. Anyhow, I thought Mother Hips were good, but I would've rather seen more LoS. LoS only played for an hour and 35 mins... a short but sweet set! LoS 2/7/98 @ House Of Blues, L.A. Ca. Can't wait to learn more about one of my favorite bands. 1.) my first LoS experience: I'm a new fan. I had heard about them in early 97 on the net and had read great reviews. So when I found out they would be on HORDE it gave me another reason to be excited. The first time I heard them was 8/21/97 in Pittsburgh. I've been hooked since. After hearing them for about one minute I lost it. Uncontrollable dancing urges took over my body. I danced as hard as I ever have for those 50 minutes. The horn section from the Squirrel Nut Zippers joined them at the end. Easily the highlight of the HORDE show. Afterwards the band was in a booth signing autographs and chatting. I got the guys to sign my newly purchased Euphoria cd. I chatted with Vince for a few minutes about my hometown and how we were camping after the show. Not only are they incredibly talented but really nice and down to earth. So I've gotten some tapes, the cds, and make sure to see them when they come around. Next stop, Graffiti's on 3/30. 2.) Another band I'm really into is Hypnotic Clambake. To keep this LoS related I listened to Euphoria with the guys in Clambake. Also Mark, the old clarinet player, was telling me how extremely cool the guys in Salmon are. He talked about the time he played with them and how it's real cool how they let guys from others band get on stage for a song or two. If anyone here trades Clambake, check out: http://www.personal.psu.edu/sxm318/clam.html I'm looking forward to meeting some cool people and discussing the one and only Leftover Salmon. steve ------ =_NextPart_000_01BD4DD8.722ABC80 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Benjamin Marks To: "GGRREEYY@aol.com" Cc: "leftover@lists.colorado.edu" , "johnf@pcom.edu" Subject: PHESTIVALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in Philly Date: Sun, 1 Mar 1998 10:00:44 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit GGRREEYY wrote: > > Darn, > I came home from work all proud that I had ordered tickets for a phish concert > at nassau col on april 3rd. BFD, the show will be full of a bunch of talktative Nooo Yawkers and rambunctious phony wannabees. Any show at Nassau has several characteristics: (a) nasty Uniondale cops looking to bust heads (b) noisy Nooo Yawkers during the show (c) nothing to do in the area before or after the show Save your money and go see Leftover at the Electric Factory. I wanna see a Pasta with Weir. You know there will be some interband jamming and Philly is a cooler city than Uniondale off the Meadowbrook. My two cents.... Keeping in mind that you've been in Hawaii for the last year and have missed a BUNCH of good music, I can understand your dilema. Being as this *is* a LoS group, you can guess who people will recommend. If you were to ask the Phish group, you will no doubt get a different answer. I too have mixed feelings about a Ratdog/LoS show(s). It could be great to see the boys mixing it up with Ratdog. Drew could do wonders to their sound... but do you think Bobby will allow it? He has had wonderful guitar players jam with him like Taj Mahal, only to stifle them, so Bobby's guitar is front and center. Although when Bobby played with moe. recently at the Great American, it was incredible. Best and most inspired I've seen Bobby play in quite some time. But then, it *was* a moe show, not a Ratdog show. I also prefer LoS as *the* band, and get frustrated that they usually take a back seat when they have guests jam with them. It's as if they become a back-up band to whomever. It works will with Jim Page and SCI, but there have been times I wished to see more Salmon, and less guest. Is Philly the first scheduled Ratdog/LoS show? If not, I would say wait until they've played a few (and what the reviews are) until you make up your mind. If this is the first show, well, do you plan on staying for Ratdog (and possibly LoS joining them)? LoS as an opener, or in a multi billing where they only play for an hour or so is always like a teaser to me.... spoiled I guess. I prefer my Salmon sets to be 2+ hours and have multiple shows, like Santa Cruz/SF/Tahoe or two nights at the Fillmore. Good luck on the decision. peace/pasta, and welcome to the LoS group. -sherry ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------ =_NextPart_000_01BD4DD8.722ABC80 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: "johnlevene@juno.com" To: "leftover@lists.colorado.edu" , "sci@netspace.org" Subject: hoodoo bash tree structure Date: Sun, 1 Mar 1998 14:30:27 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit It's finally here!!! :-) Here is the Hoodoo Bash Tree Structure...any questions please send them to johnlevene@juno.com.
