I am getting ready to order a few CDs from Leeway Productions, and am in a quandary. There are a lot of CDs I want there, but I am also really interested in the Taper's Reel I've seen discussed here. How is that CD going to be offered? Is there going to be a deal for list members? I really don't want to wait for it to be released before I place my order, but I also would like to get it from Leeway if that's the only place it will be sold. Sorry, I should've paid more attention to the messages about it when they were flying fast & furious... As an aside; it was really funny when I looked over the list of CDs I wanted - they were almost all Live recordings, and the Reel CD will be of stuff that's been circulated. I don't think it will be out until late April at the earliest -- HR has "suggested" some changes to the list of selections... The good news is that HR is excited about it and is anxious to get it out. That's why they put so much pressure on in the beginning to get it going early. If you don't hear from me in the next day or two I am full. BTW, I did a short road trip with Greg Brown this weekend and what fun. In case you don't know, GB is a folkie from Iowa. He has this incredible vocalist warming him up and jamming with him during his set. KAREN SOVAKA is her name and she plays bongo while her partner plays electric guitar. Her lyrics are unpretentious and straightforward and her show kept me smiling. I love making new discoveries. All Lee does is buy a big batch of CD's from the distributor and sell them himself. BTW, for those who haven't looked over the new Leeway Productions catalog go over to the web page and check it out. He's now distributing CD's by the Dead, Allmans, Santana, Salmon, Hypnotic Clambake, SCI, MMW, James Taylor Quartet, Phish, and a TON of others. I can't remember the web address, but there's a link on my sight. BTW, Leeway Productions, is the company that owns Homegrown so, the web sights are one in the same. matt http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~msween1 ------ =_NextPart_000_01BD4DD9.FB46E010 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: matthew sweeney To: "vann@his.com" Cc: "leftover@lists.colorado.edu" Subject: Re: Taper's Reel CD Date: Mon, 9 Mar 1998 13:20:19 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > > I'm not familiar with Leeway, but my understanding is that Hollywood > Ok, for all that are unfamiliar with Leeway Productions. Leeway is the company that was started by Lee Crumpton that owns the Homegrown Music Network. Basically, he's got three distribution companies working together. The Network, which is an invite only group. The Independant Music Outlet, which anyone can join, for a fee. And Leeway Productions, where Lee buys CD's from a distributor and then resells them himself. Leeway is a great way to find some pretty hard to find disks and helps to finance Homegrown and IMO. So, deffinetly give them some buisness and support them. > I don't think it will be out until late April at the earliest -- HR has > "suggested" some changes to the list of selections... Phish and DMB both have started releasing Live CD's on a semi-regular basis. And hopefully, the V. 1 in the Tapers Reels CD means so is Salmon. A little over a month ago I was at this Irish Pub in baltimore and an older gentleman came up to my friends and I and gave me a diskette that contained words to Irish songs. So, the other day I'm cleaning up my room and I come across this diskette. And inspiration strikes. The spirit in hwich this disk was given to me was so that I could learn the words to the songs. So, I've decided to take this whole thing one step further and undertake the huge task of converting these lyrics to HTML and put them on my web sight (and it is a huge task with about 490 songs). So, I start this project and I'm thinking, "I wonder if there is anything else on the web like this?" Being a growing fan of old timey, folk, and blues, I'm left wondering if there is any kind of database out there that lists the lyrics to some of these great songs. Anyone got any ideas? If not (or if they are small) then I have found my mission. If there is some pretty extensive ones out there, then I'll just throw up these lyrics and see what else to add. But, anyways. Any of you musician types out there know of any web sights? matt ps Bryant, mind giving me the web sight to that page with all the folk songs that you were using to identify the old LoS tunes with? ------ =_NextPart_000_01BD4DD9.FB46E010 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Cheekweezl To: "ThompsoS@westerville.k12.oh.us" Cc: "leftover@lists.colorado.edu" Subject: Re: SCI at Jazz Fest (No LoS) Date: Mon, 9 Mar 1998 13:43:22 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In a message dated 98-03-09 10:59:11 EST, you write: << Sorry about the misinformation last week.
