Operating from an increasingly faulty memory, so double check all this, but I think Angel's Camp is on Hwy 4, east of Sonora. It's where Hwy 4 and Hwy 120 come closest together. It's about one hour west of the Bear Valley Ski Area (where the High Sierra Fest happens). It's in gold country. My guess is that it's about 3500 - 4000 feet up the side of the Sierra. Did you say The Other Ones and LoS? From the messages it >seems that The Other Ones, JGB, and Santana (?!) are rumored to be playing Oops, JGB wasn't part of the rumor I heard. [Please bear in mind that this is unsourced -- only the LoS part seems firm at this point.] I was trying to describe Other Ones as the GD minus Jerry. I think OO also includes some folks from Ratdog and some other bands. I'm trying to recall an article from the SF Chronicle. Sorry for the confusion... I checked Santana's official site and couldn't find anything about it -- Europe is scheduled for June and July, and there're several shows in LA later in the summer -- but nothing listed in May. - B ----__ListProc__NextPart____LEFTOVER__digest_893 Date: Thu, 19 Mar 1998 17:08:59 -0500 (EST) From: matthew sweeney To: taz@nowhere.net Cc: leftover@lists.colorado.edu Subject: Re: check this out Message-ID: <199803192209.RAA19996@indy08.gl.umbc.edu> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > > Hey music lovers! Check it out and order the disc! > Hey, anyone else noticed the recent explosion of this new little scene? I've been watching it grow for sometime and it just seems to have really grown recently. The scene I'm talking about is a group I call the New Traditional scene. Bands like Salmon, SCI, Clambake, Recipe, Mtn top exp., etc. that use traditional music to form their own brand of groove that is completly new and original. I'm completly loving it. The other main faction of the groove scene (what I've refered to groove pop) has started to bore me as of late. There are just so many bands out there that have that polished groove sound and obviously take a nod to Phish and BT and Zappa etc. that it's getting a little over loaded, now though we have this new scene where all the bands are mixing things up so much taht it's becoming really fresh and new. Hopfully, the spirit of the scene will keep things fresh for quite a while before it starts to get redundant (something that happens to EVERY musical movement given the right amount of time). So, am I crazy or does someone else know where the hell I'm coming from. matt ps completly siked to go back to my room 4 more disks from Rounder (acctually 2 from Rounder, 2 from a Latin Jazz label Rounder distributes). Including two more Alan Lomax disks. I'll let you know what's going on when I get a chance to hear them. pps my check for Merle Tickets went out today.
