One Of The Best Kept Secrets Of Digital Multi-Tracking!
There are numerous multi-tracking programs on the market to be had, but here's a little secret that I just accidently stumbled upon, that I use often, and once you see it work I have no doubt that you too will make use of it. The trick is to just use your plain old windows WAV editor! That's right! If you use your wav recorder/editor in conjunction with any MP3 player, you'll discover that you'll have unlimited tracking capabilities! The common editors that I've seen will not let you hear what you want to record against. It will not let you monitor the recording to play against it. So what I do is use my MP3 player. I can monitor what I want to record against in MP3 format, and record a track in WAV format. Once the MP3 that you are monitoring is converted into WAV format, it's a simple thing to take the track you just recorded and paste it in. The wav recorder will only record your input, and not the MP3 that you are playing against. It works well, and lets you do UNLIMITED TRACKS! Try it out, and you'll see that there is really no need to search out resource eating expensive tracking programs!
There is another added benefit to using this method. Most of the time when you get a track that you want to record against online, it'll be in MP3 format. So you can play the MP3 immediately as soon as you get it, and track into the wav editor. So you can do recordings while online (if you want). Convert the WAV into MP3, and send it to the person you are jammin with in a matter of minutes! It's so simple it's a wonder it's not more widely known, or used!
