The Evangelions are the giant biomechanical humanoid weapons constructed by NERV. They are the only weapons with the ability to effectively combat the Angels. Like the Angels, each Evangelion Unit has the ability to raise an AT Field--the defensive forcefield that protects its creator from conventional forms of attack. Evangelion Unit Zero
Designation: Prototype Model
Construction Site: NERV Headquarters, Tokyo-3
Pilot: Ayanami Rei
Description: EVA-00 was not originally designed for battle situations. It is the first in the Eva series, and its primary purpose is one of research. The data collected from tests run on EVA-00 is used to perfect the science of Evangelion in later models.
Evangelion Unit One
Designation: Test Type Model
Construction Site: NERV Headquarters, Tokyo-3
Pilot: Ikari Shinji
Description: EVA-01 is the first Evangelion built with battle capability. Data obtained from EVA-00's tests was used to improve upon the design in EVA-01. NERV's research team is constantly reminded that they don't fully understand the science of the Evangelion, as EVA-01 is known to activate itself without power and perform unexpected actions against all apparent logic.
Evangelion Unit Two
Designation: Production Model
Construction Site: NERV Third Branch, Germany
Pilot: Soryu Asuka Langley
Description: EVA-02 is the first Evangelion built specifically for battle situations. It is escorted by the U.N. Pacific Fleet from Germany to Japan, where Asuka and EVA-02 join the team under Misato's command.
