"Whaddaya
think, Frack?" Brian showed Nick a fabulous chain made of gold.
Nick
shook his head. "Cool. But not for me, really," Nick handed back the chain
to Brian.
"Oh
OK. What about this," Brian picked a silvery necklace with the shape of
a heart.
"You're
insane!" laughed Nick before slapping Brian's back. "Let's just go back
to the hotel," he mumbled.
"But
wait! This! This must've been made for you, Frack!" Brian cried his astonishment
to a chunk of fake gold jewelry. Nick tugged Brian's blue jacket sleeve
and dragged him out from the Souvenir Shop.
The
moment they stepped out from the store they were greeted by screaming fans
who had been waiting for them outside. They signed a couple of autographs
before their bodyguards squeezed them into their waiting black BMW.
"Wow!
It's freezing outside and those girls are still waiting for us," Nick said
in amazement.
"Poor
things," Brian said. He popped out the window before shouting, "Go home,
guys! We wouldn't be responsible if you catch pneumonia!"
Then
he waved. The crowd went mad.
"Brian,
get back in the car," ordered one of their bodyguards Randy.
"Just
being nice to the fans, Big Ran," told Brian.
"Where
are we heading now?" asked Nick.
"We're
going back to the hotel, " Brian continued, "to ask AJ if he wanna join
us finding a new neckchain for you."
Nick
folded his hands upon his chest. "Yeah, so he can shop for his own jewelry..."
"and
Donna would kill us!" Brian pretended to frown. "AJ's collection is just
too many," Bri added, "he'll spend all his budget on some priceless jewelry..."
Nick
cut in, "Well look who's talking," pointing on Brian's 'B-rok' chain.
"Hey!
Mine is really worth the money," he defended himself.
"Tsk,
tsk, tsk," Nick continued slagging, "all those money wasted for nothing..."
"And
what about you?" Brian stroke back, "one time you shop on your own and
you practically end up with the chain that caused your neck black!"
Brian
and Nick battled all the way before one of the bodyguards noticed another
store and they decided to take a look inside.
In the meantime, not far from them.....
Jenn
stepped back. "No! I don't want to wear any mascara! I love being natural!"
Leah
quickly ordered Rachel to hold Jenn. "This won't hurt, Jenn," Leah whispered,
making a step closer while holding an eye-pencil.
Jennifer struggled. Rachel released her. She made her way out from the ladies' room. Her friends came out a second later, pursuing her.
"Why
do you hate make-ups, Jenn? You're old enough!" Rachel asked.
"I'm
18 but I don't feel like getting my face thick," Jenn said, whilst making
her way out from the coffee shop.
Rachel
exchanged silly looks with her sister Leah.
"What
can you say," sighed Leah. "She's the only girl in her family. We shouldn't
give her a hard time."
Jenn turned to her pals and smiled. She knew she won again. She always thought there's no use of applying such things to her face. She always knew her face was pretty enough. So why does my pals always force me to wear some, she asked herself.
Jennifer, Leah, and Rachel --the three best friends--walked on the pavement, making jokes of each other. They didn't realise one of them walked too far to the street. A truck came behind them. The truck driver didn't notice Jenn who was walking only three inches away. Leah and Rachel saw that coming half a second later, and screamed their lungs out. "Watch out Jenn!!!"
The truck came into a loud screeching sound. Leah and Rachel closed their eyes tightly. Then there was silence.
Jenn groaned weakly, feeling her body laid on the cold snowy street. I'm dead, she thought. But then she realised there was somebody else beside her. A guy in a blue jacket and white jeans, struggling to make a stand on the snow. Then he turned at her.
"That
was close!" he said with a worry look on his face. "Are you alright?"
He took
her hands and helped her to get up.
"I...
uh, I'm fine. Thanks."
She
learned that the guy probably jumped and rescued her from that accident.
The truck
driver angrily told Jenn to watch out next time. Then the truck drove away.
Jenn
walked with the helper to a safer place, along with her panicky friends.
"You're
okay? Oh gosh I thought we're never gonna see you again!" Leah bursted
as they got back to the pavement.
"Yeah...
my heart's still racing here!" said Rachel.
Jenn
told her friends to calm down, then she gazed to her saviour. This guy
is really cute! she said to herself. What a luck.
The
guy was busy cleaning up his pants from snow, then he turned to Jenn. She
flushed.
Oh
no. He caught me staring at him! Calm yourself!
He walked
towards her.
"Hi.
I'm Brian Littrell," he introduced himself. "I saved you a while ago, so
I suppose I'm a hero now."
Jenn
laughed, releaving her tension. "Hi, Hero! Thanks for saving me. My name's
Jennifer."
Brian
smiled. They talked a bit until Nick and Randy came over.
"Frick!
Where've you been? We've looked up and down that store for you... but y'know
what, I found this neckchain which is really groovy..." Nick blabbed, not
noticing Jenn and her pals.
"Sorry,
I was busy saving somebody from a possibly miserable death," Brian told
Nick, giving a meaningful smile to Jenn.
"Yeah
sure. Whatever," Nick answered in disbelief. Then Nick shook hands with
Jenn, Leah and Rachel.
"Well,
gotta go. C'mon, Bri, Nick," Randy told the guys.
Brian
exchanged phone numbers with Jenn, then followed Nick to their car. When
they're in, Nick tapped his shoulder.
"You
haven't answer my question, Frick, but I already knew the answer. You left
us to chat her up, didn't you?" Nick pretended he was hurt. He continued,
"But of course I understand why..." He gave Bri a teasing grin.
Brian
grinned back.
"She's
pretty, ain't she?"
"He's
a Backstreet Boy?" Jenn laid her back on the bed. She calmly sighed, "So
what?"
A sound
of mad yelling came from the other side of that phone call.
"Please
calm down, Rach. I can't understand what you're saying."
Jenn
got a few more yelling and she decided to put down the phone. Then she
said to herself, he's famous? That means he won't call.
Jenn
was blind about musical knowledge. But she knew Backstreet Boys. She just
didn't realise that Brian was one of them.
Then
a ring came from her phone, snapping her back to reality.
"Hello?"
"Hi!
Jennifer? This is me, Brian."
Jenn felt a cold got in her blood. She didn't know what to say. She was practically nervous. She never talked to a celebrity before! But then Brian talked her up and she felt easy again. They talked for hours until Brian had some show he must go to.
"I'm
outta here!" Brian wore his jacket and his blue Wildcats cap, preparing
to leave the hotel.
"Wait!
Where are you going to?" asked AJ, hoping that he could tag along. He planned
to shop at the nearest mall.
"I have
a date, Bone. Get this, she's a girl who didn't know I was in the group!"
"Wow.
That's rare!"
"She's
special, I tell you. Nick knows about her. You can ask him. Oops! I'm already
late. Bye," Brian waved, then left.
Jenn
held up a teddy bear. "Rachel or Leah would love getting these from their
boyfriend," she said uninterested. Brian got curious.
"What
about you? Don't you love getting those from your boyfriend?"
Jenn
shook her head. "No. I don't like teddies.... or any kinda girlie things."
Brian's
face filled with disappointment. "I have thousands of teddies from our
shows... if you like them then I'd give them all to you," he cheekily
added.
"Those
are from fans, Brian. You should keep them and perhaps snuggle up to them
before you sleep," she teased.
Brian
smiled. Then he carefully asked, "You said you don't like girlie things?
What do you mean?"
"I don't
enjoy make-ups or things like that," she explained. An embarrased look
appeared on her face. "But I do care about how I look though."
Brian
warmly told her, "I don't know if I may say it or not... You're pretty,
can't argue from that," Brian paused. His face shimmered. "But it's not
a sin to wear make-ups. But if you don't want to I would still like you....
I mean, everybody would..."
Then
he covered his face with his hands. "Ohhh I messed up," he mumbled. "I'm
not good at this."
Jenn
blushed. "I thought I'd look weird in cosmetics..."
Brian
softly answered, "No, you wouldn't."
Jenn
realised she didn't have to look tough. She's a girl and she should look
like one.
The next day...
Rachel
and Leah rang Jenn's doorbell.
The
door opened, Jenn appeared. "Hi. Don't just stand there, come in!" she
ordered.
Rachel
and Leah gasped after a long pause.
"My
God! You.... you put on a lipstick!" they exclaimed.
Jenn
laughed watching her friends startled in amazement.
"Surprise!"
she said proudly.
Months later.....
Nick: "Hey Jenn! Where do you think you're going? You haven't finished my make-up yet."
Howie: "Oh c'mon Nick! The shooting is still an hour away. Are you nervous?"
Nick: "Ack! No I'm not. Anyway, Jenn! Where's my green shirt? I can't find it anywhere!"
Jenn: "Please turn around to your left, there you would see a green thing laying on a chair."
Everybody in the studio laughed. Nick flushed and pretended he didn't hear anything.
Brian: "I still can't believe it, Baby."
Jenn: "Believe what, Darlin'?"
Brian: "That you're now working with us! That not over a month ago you hated make-ups. That now you're a make-up artist and also a wardrobe assistant!"
Jenn laughed. "I know. The whole world seemed to be surprised too!"
Kevin: "Help! I need a towel before the make-up wears off. The air here is too hot and I'm sweating already!"
Jenn: "Stay there! I'll be right back!"
Jenn
scurried down the hall, thinking how she loved her job with the Backstreet
Boys, doing what she hated in the old days, make-ups!
