"I told ya no more punching
on the stomach! It hurts!" Amber told her brother furiously.
Aaron grinned, but refuse
to take notes from his foster sister. "Girls just can't have fun! Right,
Nick?"
Nick turned his sleepy eyes
to his younger siblings and muffled, "Could you guys do me a favor?"
"Sure, what?" they both said
in unison.
"SHUT YOUR BIG F*CKIN' MOUTHS
UP!!!!! I'm trying to get some sleep!" With that, he planted his head above
his pillow. Firmly.
"Boy he's in his worst mood!
Let's go, Am!" Aaron got on his feet and waved Amber to come along.
They went outside and took a walk to a sports store nearby. Amber bounced happily when Aaron decided to buy her the shoes she had been longing for. She accidentally stamped over somebody's foot. The person was about 18 years old, dark haired, and looked nice. She wasn't really hurt, but Amber insisted to make up with buying her an ice cream. She was forced to say yes.
"I'm sorry I stamped over your
foot. Does it still hurt?"
"I told you thousand times,
NO. It's allright. Anyway, my name's Katie. Now I owe you a double scoop
sundae!"
"Hi. I'm Amber and this is
Aaron."
Aaron made a smirk. "You better
not owe her anything, lady! Remember, she trampled all over you!"
"I did not! Did I?" Katie
laughed. "No you didn't. You're a very nice girl, Amber. Well, gotta run.
I have a bus to catch. Bye!"
As soon as Katie left, Amber
realized Aaron was still looking at Katie's direction.
"Aaron!" she called out. "Aaron!
You're blushing!"
"What?" he staggered. "OK,I
have to admit, I like mature girls. And Katie is.... oh so gorgeous!" He
began sighing. Sighing all the way home.
"Where have you kids been all
day? Dinner's getting cold!" their mom greeted them.
"Nick told us to take a hike!"
Aaron replied, right before Nick chased him and tickled him.
Jane sighed. "That wasn't
very nice, Nick. OK you guys, wash your hands! Dinner!"
They each sat around the table
and was busy reporting their activities.
"Hey Amber! Wanna hear something
about Brian?" Nick leaned over and whispered. Actually a loud whisper so
everybody would get the idea. Amber leaned back and pretended she didn't
care. "What about him?"
Nick sighed and shook his
head in a very sad look.
"What happened?" Amber forgot
to cover her anxious face. Nick smiled, claiming his victory. "Brian....
broke up with his girlfriend. He dumps her or she dumps him, that I don't
know."
"That's.... pretty awful.
How can it be?" "Amber, you're smiling." "No I'm not! At least I try not
to. So, how's Brian taking this?" "Hurt. But he'll recover. Hey! Kids aren't
suppose to know about this!"
"Yeah, Aaron! Shut your ears,
we don't want you to hear this." she said, trying to wind him up. They
all laughed. Aaron replied, "So you've got your chance, Am. Go and comfort
B-rok!" She blushed while Nick laughed very loud and tossed a high-five
to his younger brother.
Brian visited Nick's house
for a basketball. Amber called Katie and told her to come immediately.
"Briaaaan.... I have a surprise
for you. It's gonna be here any minute."
Brian smiled and passed her
the ball. "I can't wait!"
Nick stole the ball from her
hands. "What is the surprise, Amber? You haven't told me anything!"
"That's a secret. You'd try
to have it for you if I told you what it was."
"Ha-ha. No way! I..."
"Hi Amber!" Katie called from
a distance. Amber immediately rushed to her. "What's the big surprise you
said you want to give me?" Amber grinned and took her to her playmates.
"Katie, meet Brian. Brian, this is Katie!"
Brian stood looking at Katie,
somehow speechless. Katie offered her hand. "Hi." she greeted. Brian shook
her hand. "Hi. Um..... how do you do?" "Great. Are you guys playing basketball?"
"Yeah!" Nick replied hurriedly.
"Join us!" Nobody noticed the somehow excited tone in Nick's voice.
Nick was talking on his cellphone
to Brian.
"Yo Brian! How's things goin,
man?"
"Nicky baby, I love ya!!!!"
"Whoa! Everything's great,
I suppose?"
"Very! Nicky, I think I'm
falling in love! She is the prettiest thing I've ever saw in my whole life!
Oh man... Just look at her dark silky beautiful hair, her green deep calm
eyes, her... and check out her smile! Ohhhhh....."
"Hold on, Frick! You're taking
this seriously? What about your crashed relationship just recently? Aren't
you too fast to recover?"
"I know..... but I really
like her! By the way, thanks for your attention, bro. I appreciate it.
Now can I talk to your little Amber?"
"Yeah sure. After all it's
my cell phone. I'm glad to lend it for your sake!"
"Heheh. Thanks dude!"
(Nick called Amber over)
"Brian! Wassup?"
"Amberrrr honeyyyyy......
I really loved your little surprise today!"
"I know you would! I know
your type of girl, B-rok. Inside-and-out! So when I met her, I can't think
of anyone else but the ever-lonely B-rok. Anyways, if you wanna ask why,
no matter how huuuge is my love to you, I can never have you! The alternative
I have is to match you up with someone I care for too. (stopped for a deep
breathing).... So, where are you taking her tomorrow?"
"Ho-ho-ho, that's grown-up
talk! I think she'll like Italian food. I'll probly take her to the Pizza
Place. See ya, sweetie! I LOVE YOU!!!! Smooch!"
"I know. Bye."
Amber put down the phone with
a warmth in her heart. Nick was staring from the back. His face was rustled.
He muffled, "You know, Am, you're right. If you had told me the surprise
you were gonna give Brian, I'd spoil it." Amber nodded. "Yeah. But come
on, Nick! You already have Tammy!"
Nick sighed. "You know what,
sis? Tammy's going away real soon."
"What?!"
