On Lexington's WLEX-TV Channel 18 News Monday night, May 8, 2000, they had a report on Brian
and his family playing in a charity golf tournament in nearby Richmond, Kentucky.
The report is done by anchor/reporter Tracy Kornet, a major Backstreet Boys fan. It shows
Brian, Leighanne, Brian's mom and dad (Jackie and Harold), his brother (Harold), and Harold's
fiancee, Tracy. It also features Tyke and Litty Leigh as Brian's "babies"
dressed in little bloomers. Brian is laughing and joking around especially with his dad who
is his golf partner. Jackie and Leighanne are partnered and Harold and his fiancee, Tracy.
Tracy Kornet: Perfect golfing weather today but
at one course in Richmond
both the sun
and the stars were out, in particular Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell and his
brand-new
bride-to-be. They were part of the Mutt Putt Charity Golf Tournament
benefiting the
Lexington Humane Society. And today they tee it up with us. It's a story
you'll see only
on L-E-X 18 News.
Tracy Kornet (voice-over): Even on the first tee
of a private Kentucky golf
course Brian
Littrell can't escape the cheers of adoring fans. But these are by far his
favorites, they're
family.
Brian: I've always wanted, as having a career,
I've always wanted to get to
this point, in
a career, where you can really enjoy yourself.
Tracy Kornet (voice-over): Brian says he loves
sharing the perks of his
popularity with
those he loves most - mom and dad, brother Harold and his new fiancee
Tracy,
Brian's
brand-new babies still in diapers (note from me: his Chihuahuas in
bloomers), and the
woman who captured his heart, fiancee, Leighanne.
Leighanne: The reason I'm the luckiest girl in
the world? Is because we
love
each other
so much and the love is shared.
Jackie: She's just been a Godsend to us and Brian
says she's his best pal.
Leighanne: He's private as far as his personal
life in public but he is
funny, he's spiritual,
he's good-hearted, good-natured. I am lucky! I got the best guy you'd ever
want in your
life and he's mine!
Tracy Kornet (voice-over): While Brian's always
been vocal about inheriting
his parents
musical talents, the 25-year-old Lexington native said his mom and dad have
given him
something more to aspire to. Not only a near perfect approach shot.
Brian (joking about his dad's awesome shot): I'm
trying to get him to
retire so he can
become a better golfer.
Tracy Kornet (voice-over): but a legacy of love
in their 29-year marriage.
Brian: They've helped my brother and I so much in
making us the men that we
are today.
Tracy Kornet (voice-over): That solid foundation
is one of the many reasons
Leighanne
says she is thrilled to be a part of the Littrell family.
Leighanne: They're the family I always
wanted.
Tracy Kornet (voice-over) (showing Jackie with
Leighanne and Harold's
Tracy): And why
the feeling is clearly mutual.
Tracy Kornet: A very sincere family. Brian and
Leighanne met three years
ago
on the set
of the Backstreet Boys music video, As Long As You Love Me. The couple is
keeping mum
about their wedding plans.
LEX 18 News repeated this report later in the week and Tracy Kornet added
some more information. Before they repeated the report some of her comments
were:
Tracy: I have never seen the family so happy and relaxed. In fact, Brian's
mom, Jackie, tells me life has really calmed down since that wedding
announcement of both of those Backstreet Boys. People are starting to treat
them like "real people" again and that is exactly how you would describe the
entire Littrell clan.
Then after the report as Tracy Kornet is talking to the news anchors some of
her comments included:
Tracy: Leighanne says she is the happiest she has ever been and that Brian
and his family have even brought her back to church as well.
Then Tracy talked about how thrilled Jackie is to have these two daughters
in the family, the two future daughter-in-laws, and about how they have all
these weddings coming up in the family - Brian, Kevin, and Brian's brother,
Harold.
One of the news anchors asked Tracy how Brian and Leighanne met and Tracy
replied:
Tracy: Okay, on a music video. On "As Long As You Love Me" music video. She
was just a regular...She didn't even know who he was. Didn't think he was
all that. And so they met before he was, you know...(News anchor: a big
star)...an international pop icon.
News anchor 1: Well, she's quite cute in her own right.
News anchor 2: Yes, she is.
Tracy: Oh, she's darling and she's a little older than he is...30 and he's
25.
News anchor: That's okay.
Tracy: She's a doll.
Then they continued to talk about Brian's mom, Jackie, being a keynote
speaker at a maternity fair that St. Joseph Hospital was having that
weekend.
Another message, one from a Backstreet.net reader. Caroline from Lexington please write to me
if you don't want this on this page. I will remove it if you want. I just agree with what you
say. Brian deserves some time to himself.
Hi! I know a lot of you have been getting mad at Brian lately because of how he acted at the
Kentucky
Derby, but I have a story about him and LeighAnne that might put everyones' minds at ease
about the
whole situation! On May 8th, Brian was participating in a celebrity golf tournament in
Richmond. My
sister lives in Richmond and called me to tell me about it. Well, I immediately drove over
there the
second she told me and I waited out there all day long for Brian and LeighAnne to be
finished playing
so I could maybe get a pic with BOTH of them!!
Throughout the game, I was watching Brian closely to see how he acted towards the fans
that were
there, and to see if LeighAnne was trying to be bossy or tell him how to act. Let me tell
you, both Brian
and LeighAnne were VERY nice and sweet to everyone they talked to! LeighAnne just had
genuine
smile on her face the whole time, and whenever a reporter asked her about Brian, she just
had this
glow about her. Brian was in a great mood (maybe because he was with all of his family and
friends),
and he looked so cute playing golf! He's sooo short (but still really cute)!! Even his
little dogs were
there! I was waiting for Brian or LeighAnne to do something mean or rude to a fan... but
it just didn't
happen!
After the game, reporters were asking both Brian and LeighAnne a bunch of questions (they
were on
the news later that night), so we (the fans) still had to wait for him to get done. But
even when he was
just standing there, fans would yell out at him , and he would turn around and smile
really big and wave
at them! Some people were even yelling out at LeighAnne (to say hi), and she smiled and
waved, too!
After they were finished, Brian came over to where the fans were and waved at everyone. He
signed a
few autographs and let people take pics of him. But he was still with his family and
fiance, so he didn't
really stay too long. It's like he was being pulled in all different directions (by the
fans, reporters,
family, ect). I talked to a few people who met him after the golf tournament and they said
he was very
nice and kinda of a quiet type of person. But then again, I'd be kinda quiet, too, if a
person I 'd never
ever met before came up to me! I asked these fans who met him if he was ever rude to them
and they
all said he was really nice!
