Backstreet Boys Act

Teen pop idols Backstreet Boys - whose Millennium album was the top seller of 1999 - are getting into the film business.

As I reported here last winter, smallish blond Boy Brian Littrell has co-produced the movie Olive Juice starring his fiancée, Leighanne Wallace. The independent movie, directed and produced by Nick Karvounis and his brother - who have a juggling act at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas - has just finished post-production. The Karvounises are now looking for a distributor.

But the big news is that Littrell - whose voice you hear as the main vocal on the group's big hit "I Want It That Way" - took his first acting job in the movie. And he's not alone. A.J. MacLean, another BSB, has a slightly smaller role in the film. Both Boys have lines - these aren't just walk-ons - and the parts constitute their acting debuts.

Adding to his roles on the film, Littrell is also co-producing the soundtrack with Wallace, according to Karvounis. Songs on the album include BSB's "Perfect Fan," from Millennium, as well as songs by unknown artists whom Brian and Leighanne assembled.

"There are also some surprises," says Karvounis, who declined to comment on the rumor that Littrell will test Olive Juice as his debut as a solo act. Already, another Boy - MacLean - has been moonlighting as Johnny No Name, trying to establish a separate identity from the 7-year-old group.
