Un 3 de Octubre de 1971 nacía al norte del estado de Kentucky, en la ciudad de Lexington, Kevin Scott Richardson. Sus padres, Gerald y Ann, junto con sus dos hermanos mayores, Gerald y Tim, le brindaron una infancia repleta de felicidad. Hasta los 9 años vivió en la granja que los Richardson poseían, el resto de su niñez y adolescencia en una cabaña en el bosque. Desde pequeño se encargaba de cuidar los animales y hacer todo tipo de tareas, también ayudaba a su padre quien dirigía campamentos de estudiantes, asimismo llegó a convertirse en ayudante profesional de montaña.

De pequeño ya comenzaba a interesarse en todo lo artístico: frente al espejo simulaba cantar con el cepillo en la boca como micrófono. También participaba en todo acto escolar que se le presentara y le gustaba mucho bailar, cosa que debe haber heredado de sus padres, que eran una muy buena pareja de baile.

A los 6 años para una Navidad recibió el regalo que había estado pidiendo durante todo el año, sus padres se jugaron y le compraron una hermosa batería de juguete, a la cual tocó hasta no dar más.

Al ingresar al instituto recibió el segundo obsequio más querido y deseado, su primer teclado. Inmediatamente comenzó con las clases de piano, aunque a la vez poseía el don de sacar las canciones de oído, por lo que, nunca aprendió solfeo.

También durante su adolescencia cantaba en los coros de la iglesia, junto a su primo Brian Littrell.

A los 13 años compuso su primera canción y a los 16 consiguió su primer trabajo tocando el piano en un restaurante.

Kev recuerda con cariño su primer beso, fue en el quinto curso del instituto con una chica que se llamaba Gina Davison de quien era muy amigo. Como nunca ninguno de los dos había probado decidieron hacerlo juntos; lo que no debe haber estado tan mal ya que en ese mismo día siguieron con las prácticas varias veces.

Otro de los recuerdos que guarda fehacientemente en su memoria y corazón son aquellas Navidades que pasaban en familia, donde ambos primos interpretaban los tradicionales villancicos dejando a la luz sus indiscutibles talentos.

Durante la adolescencia se destacaba en todo lo referente a deportes, especialmente en el fútbol americano donde era un miembro imprescindible en el equipo de su colegio.

La primera vez que se enamoró fue mientras trabajaba en el restaurante anteriormente mencionado, allí conoció a una chica que se llamaba Christy. Aproximadamente después de un año de noviazgo hizo el amor por primera vez, Kevin confiesa que luego de esto se sintió culpable porque su religión no le permitía tener sexo antes del casamiento.

De pequeño Kevin quería ser piloto de las fuerzas armadas ya que su abuelo tenía un monomotor Cessna al cual le fascinaba subirse y jugar en la cabina, ver todo desde arriba era realmente emocionante!.

A los 19 años, Kevin ya estaba cansado de cantar en una banda de covers y de golpear de puerta en puerta para que alguien lo escuchase y, contando con el apoyo de su madre, decidió hacer las valijas para viajar a Orlando a probar suerte.

Una vez allí consiguió trabajo como guía turístico en DisneyWorld, donde también participaba en obras de entretenimiento bajo el disfraz de Alladino y de Tortuga Ninja. En una ocasión mientras, terminaba el baile de la última obra mencionada, tenía que lanzar una patada al aire, mientras lo hacía súbitamente la parte inferior del traje salió disparado hacia el público, teniendo que finalizar el espectáculo vistiendo solamente las medias cancanes verdes que llevaba debajo del mismo. Esto es algo que odia recordar porque durante esa época pasó mucha verguenza.

A los 19 años, en una playa de Florida conoció a la protagonista de lo que fue hasta el momento su relación sentimental más duradera y seria. La chica en cuestión se llamaba Beth y era 6 años mayor que él, en ese entonces tenía 25 años. Según las propias palabras de Kev, fue un auténtico flechazo. La relación marchaba muy bien hasta tal punto que llegaron a comprometerse. Pero luego de 3 años, ella inexplicablemente se enamoró de otro hombre y lo dejó. Esto lo hizo sufrir una gran decepción y fue el segundo gran golpe de su vida. Ahora Kevin se encuentra en busca del gran amor de su vida, con quien casarse, tener muchos niños y vivir en un gran rancho, pero sabe que antes de eso tiene una gran carrera por delante.

Pero, estando en Florida, una noticia le causó un gran impacto y resultó ser algo que lo marcó para toda la vida; a su padre le fue diagnosticado cáncer,algo que rotundamente él se negaba a creer. Por esta razón Kev regresó por un tiempo a su Kentucky natal. Finalmente luego de 10 meses de intensa lucha, Gerald murió a la temprana edad de 49 años. Fue un shock muy duro de superar, ambos eran muy unidos y Kevin lo amaba y aún lo ama profundamente. Actualmente lo recuerda en todo momento y sabe que se sentiría muy orgulloso de su éxito, y cree firmemente que lo está mirando y guiando desde "arriba".

Luego de salir de una gran depresión causada por el fallecimiento de su padre, volvió a Orlando.

Cierto día en un bar oyó hablar de un trío vocal que se caracterizaba por estar todo el tiempo entrenando sus espectaculares voces a capella en cualquier lugar. Coincidentemente estas tres personitas eran, el casi niño Nickolas Carter, Alexander McLean y Howard Dorough, quienes se conocían desde hacía tiempo por coincidir en los mismos castings, mediante los cuales se habían hecho amigos. Así los chicos se juntaron e inmediatamente se dieron cuenta que sus voces homogeneizaban a la perfección. A su vez decidieron que era necesario añadir otro integrante más para formar un quinteto potente, enseguida Kevin pensó en su primo Brian Littrell, que estaba en Kentucky y cuya voz, era privilegiada. Una llamada telefónica a larga distancia fue hecha y al día siguiente Brian ya se encontraba pisando suelo en Orlando. Lo único que les quedaba era pensar en un nombre para el grupo; estando en un famoso mercado de Orlando y muy concurrido por los adolescentes llamado "Backstreet Market", se les ocurrió que sería un buen nombre por lo que decidieron llamarse "Backstreet Boys".

Al poco tiempo de estar juntos, Lou Pearlman, un amigo en común, quien era productor (en su curriculum estaba haber sido productor de los New Kids On The Block), presentó a los chicos a los managers Donna y Johnny Wright, quienes se entusiasmaron con la propuesta.

Mientras trabajaban por conseguir un sello discográfico que los representase, partieron en un pequeño tour por la zona. En unas de sus espectaculares actuaciones en vivo, Donna Wright llamó a Dave McPherson. Con el telefono celular en alto le hizo escuchar la fuerza que los boys tenían y la euforia que causaban, sin duda aquello era realmente prometedor. De esta forma consiguieron su tan ansiado y merecido contrato discográfico. Ahora lo único que había que hacer era encerrarse durante un tiempo en el estudio de grabación y hacer escuchar al mundo sus increíbles voces y electrificantes canciones y prepararse para lo que les deparaba el futuro...

Desde ese entonces sus armonías se han ido enriqueciendo, aprovechando al máximo sus talentos para elaborar un exquisito y deleitante sonido sin más que sus fantásticas voces. Además se han vuelto inseparables, se ha formado entre ellos una relación de verdadera amistad, ellos mismos dicen ser una familia de 5 hermanos de diferentes edades.

Han ido cosechando un gran número de éxitos en un sinfin de lugares, discos de platino en todo el planeta y giras mundiales con entradas agotadas. Y esto sin duda recién comienza...

On October the 3rd of 1971 was born Kevin Scott Richardson in the city of Lexington, Kentucky. His parents, Gerald and Ann, and his older brothers, Gerald and Tim, gave him a childhood full of happyness. Kevin spent the first nine years of his live on a ten-acre farm and the next eight living in a modern-day log cabin. When he was a kid he was in charge of the animals and all kind of tasks, at the same time that he helped his father with his job, Gerald was a students-camp leader.

From an early age, Kevin was already interested in everything relationed with the showbusiness world: he used to stand in front of the mirror with his hairbrush in his mouth pretending to be singing. He also participated in every school acts, and he already loved dancing, this must have come down from his parents, who were a professional dance couple.

At the age of six, as a christmas gift he received what he'd been asking for to his parents, they bought him his first toy drums, which he played a lot.

At high school he received the other thing he'd been desired and wanted, his first keyboards set. Inmediatly he started to take piano classes, but at the same time he had a wonderful talent to play it by ear,so, he never really learned solfeggio.

During his adolescence he also sang in the choir of the church, together with his cousin Brian.

When he was 13 years old he wrote his first song and at 16 he got his first job playing keyboards in a restaurant.

Kev remembers with affection his first kiss, it was in the fifth course at the institute, the lucky girl was one of his friends, her name was Gina Davison. This kiss seemed to like to both of them, 'cause that day they repeated it many times.

Another memory he kept in his mind and heart are those nice chistmas he spent with his whole family, where both cousins sang the traditional Christmas carols, at the same time they showed their brilliant talents.

While he was a teenager he highlighted in everything referring to sports, he was specially good at american football.

The first time he fell in love was when he was working in the restaurant above mentioned, there he met a girl named Christy. About one year later he made love for the first time, Kevin confesses that after that he felt guilty 'cause his religion didn't allow him to have sex before marriege.

Since he's a little boy he loves flying, he wanted to be a pilot of the army. His grandfather had a Cessna single-motor aircraft, for him it was really fascinating... just to get on it and play in the cabin, to see everything from up there was terrific!

When he was 19 years old, and being tired of singing in a cover group without any success, counting on his mother's support he made up his mind and travel to Orlando to see what could happen.

When he was already living in Orlando, he got a job as a touristic guide in Disneyworld, at the same time he participated in different shows, playing the Alladino and Turtle Ninja characters.

One day, in a beach of Florida he met the girl who has been until the moment his most serious and lasting sentimental relationship. The girl was named Beth and she was 6 years older than him, she had 25 years old. According to Kevin's words it was a truly love at first sight. Their relationship was going really great, they got on well to each other, they were about to engaged. But three years later, inexplicably, she fell in love with someone else and she broke up with him. Now Kevin is looking for the big love of his life, the one who get married with, to have many kids and live in a big ranch, but before all this he's aware he has a career ahead and many wishes to achieve.

But, something hit him badly, still being in Florida, a terrible new was given to him, it was diagnosed cancer to his father, something that Kev definitly denied to believe. So, he travelled back to Kentucky. Finally after 10 months of quarreling to live, Gerald died at the young age of 49 years. It was something totally difficult to overcome for him, since they were very close to each other and Kevin loved and still love him very deeply. Now he remembers him always and he knows he would be very proud of his success, and he really believes that he's looking and guiding him from up there.

After overcoming a big depression cause for his father death, he came back to Orlando

One day while he was in a bar, he heard about a vocal trio, which was characterized for being all the time training their spectacular voices a capella everywhere at any time. This trio were formed by Howie Dorough, Alexander McLean and the almost child Nickolas Carter. They knew each other a long time ago, they had become friends because they coincided at the same castings. That's how Kev met them and they got together, inmediatly they realized that their voices homogenized perfectly. But they also decided that it was necessary to add another member in order to form a powerfull quintet. So, Kevin thought about his cousin Brian Littell, who at the time were living in Kentucky and who owned a privileged voice. A phone call was made, and the next day Brian was already in Orlando. Just one detail was missing, a name for the group; hangin' out in a very famous and known market for the local and tourist young people, called Backstreet Market, they decided to name themselves "Backstreet Boys".

After a while, Lou Pearlman, a friend in common, who was a producer (he had produced groups like the New Kids on the block), introduced the band to the managers Jhonny and Donna Wright, who inmediatly became enthusiastic with the proposition.

While they were working hard to get a discographic deal, they started a local tour. In one of their shows Donna phoned Dave McPherson, holding up her celular phone let him feel the energy that the boys had and he could heard the euphoria they caused on the audience. After this episode they got their yearned and deserved music deal. Now the only thing they had to do was to enter the studio and let the world know their incredible voices and great songs and to prepare themselves for what was still to come...

Since that moment, they've been growing a lot, their harmonies have been enhanced and they could find their own and distinguished sound. Furthermore they've become inseparables, they've got have a real friendship relationship, they say they are like a big family of five brothers of different ages.

They've been reaping a huge number of succesful songs in many different places, millions of copies sold worlwide and many tours sold out over all the world. And this is no doubt the beggining...
